A Computer Numerical Control (CNC) Setup-Operator I is a mid-level experience of machinist.  Under the direction of the team leader and/or supervisor, this position requires performing independent precision machining operations to produce high quality parts by programming, machine setup, operation, and establishing processes utilizing any one of the multiple CNC machining centers.

Critical Competencies and Duties:

  • Technical (Setup): Capability to utilize blueprint reading skills to identify fixtures, tools, and gages needed to complete 1st article machining to tight tolerances.  Utilize quality control inspection sheets, time reporting, troubleshooting, and diagnosing techniques to create high quality parts.
  • Technical (Program): Capability to read, analyze, diagnose, and resolve a CNC program to begin the machining process.
  • Technical (Operate): Capability to run a process by inserting the product, operating a CNC Machining Center, remove the finished part, inspect product to drawing specifications, document work and make mechanical or offsetting adjustments.
  • Relationship Building: Identify and develop strong internal relationships with fellow CNC machinists, Quality Control associates, and supervisors to meet department goals.
  • Communications and team work: Capability to receive mentorship from senior machinists to complete a machine setup or production run in an acceptable timeframe.
  • Maintenance: Perform routine maintenance and repairs as needed.
  • Adaptability: Possess an ability to change current work plans in order to meet department goals. Incumbent may be required to work on special projects on occasion to increase the effectiveness of plant operations.
  • Initiative: Identify areas of opportunity and develop plans to improve department operations.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience: 3-4 years or more conducting advanced programming, advanced machine setup and operation of a CNC Machining Center.
  • Education: Technical Certificate
  • Strong Work Ethic: Be willing to work more than 40 hours a week to meet tight deadlines.
