JOB SUMMARY 

Under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, the Junior Project Engineer/Estimator will work closely with the engineering team and the customers to maintain the design intent of the customer while ensuring a high level of Design-For-Manufacturability for production. Additionally, the incumbent will provide customer estimates on cost for GM products and services to aid management in bidding on/or determining price of product or service and recommend selling prices for GM products.  The position will establish manufacturing cost by determining manufacturing processes, equipment, and material costs.  The Junior Project Engineer/Estimator will utilize blueprints and specifications, display knowledge of products to be manufactured and services to be performed to determine cost.  The employee will be fully trained but should have 1-2 years of experience in a related field.  Must be team player and able to get along with a diverse group of people with a common goal.

Critical Competencies and Duties:

  • Technical Ability: Must be able to take the product from inception to validation and continue with changes throughout the life of the product. Develop the required processes and documentation necessary to efficiently process the product within the confines of GM's manufacturing capabilities and the customer's time line.  Ensure proper management and development of estimates, along with capturing quote history in the company's database.
  • Proactive: Demonstrate the ability to foresee problems and prevent them by meeting regularly with team members and following up on quote activity.
  • Customer Service: Ensure proper handling of customer requests and the resolution of issues within an appropriate time frame that is mutually beneficial.
  • Relationship Building: Must identify and develop strong internal relationships with staff and vendors to meet company goals.  High value collaboration with internal customers (Production & Sales) to ensure efficient production and successful end results.
  • Communications: Must have excellent listening, verbal and written skills in order to clearly communicate product requirements (including drawing documentation) and customer expectations to other departments. 
  • Adaptability: Possess an ability to change current work plans in order to meet corporate aims.  Ensure proper management of special projects to increase the effectiveness of the Sales Department.
  • Other duties as assigned.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Experience: 1-2 years of costing or CNC machining experience.
  • Education: Bachelor's degree (Mechanical discipline preferred), or equivalent experience.
  • Technical Knowledge: Must have advanced knowledge of the CNC machining processes and costs associated with machining such as tooling, fixturing, etc.
  • Technical Ability: Advanced Microsoft Office Skills: Excel, Access, Word, PowerPoint.
  • Communications: Must have excellent listing, verbal and written communication skills.
